There is some confusion in this world between the last generation of Hollywood and the next generation of Hollywood on how to be a classy person. Jennifer Lawrence, in her usual quest to make everything about herself, rants about the fact that she was paid less than her fellow stars in American Hustle. Is it true? Sure, she was paid less than others. Is it accurate? Far less so when you look at the actual details. You see — and this might be a shock to ALL ABOUT ME Lawrence as well — Jennifer Lawrence isn’t the star of American Hustle. I know, I know… it didn’t surprise me either.
While even a simple Google Search could point out that BAFTA 2014 winner JLaw was only a Supporting Character on her award, she still doesn’t understand why an up-and-comer would be paid less than established main stars of a movie. A fact made known to everyone as far back as a series of emails from the Sony Hack last year.
“Got a steve warren/gretchen rush call that it’s unfair the male actors get 9% in the pool and jennifer is only at 7pts. You may recall Jennifer was at 5 (amy was and is at 7) and WE anted in 2 extra points for Jennifer to get her to 7. If anyone needs to top jennifer up it’s megan. BUT I think amy and Jennifer are tied so upping JL, ups AA.
So right now talent has 56pts and we/megan have 44pts. As between us and megan, we have 21pts and Annapurna has 23pts. The only thing to do is (A) nothing OR (B) megan puts in the 2 points for jen, and then we split 1pt each for amy, so talent has 60pts/studios have 40 (split 20pts each)……
The current talent deals are: O’Russell: 9%; Cooper: 9%; Bale: 9%; Renner: 9%; Lawrence: 7%; Adams: 7%; Atlas ” — Andrew Gumpert (Sony email hack)
Now anyone could easily see that the movie did well at the Box Office. Those percentages offered are dividing up the profits from the movie the studio will haul in and while the math of how much a studio gets domestically and internationally is often argued… they obviously made some money off the movie in the end. This is where the whining gets truly stupid. Even using a false number like… $110 million, the difference in pay between the actors is kind of a joke. Let’s sale Bale pulls in a healthy $9.9 million from that 9%. That means Jennifer Lawrence, the supporting actress, got to make $7.7 million dollars from one movie… she wasn’t the star of… and didn’t put on another 43lbs of fat just to play a ’70s con artist. In fact JLaw’s hardest moment came from having to make out with the former Bruce Wayne who she disliked just because he was ‘Fatman’ to her now. The same actress who, almost one month earlier, was slamming Fat Shaming in Hollywood.
Here’s a shocking piece of news Ms. Lawrence, you’ve never been likable. Now take your self-centered attitude and get the fuck out until you learn what real problems are. You’re not an amazing actress. You want to know what one looks like? Helen Mirren, Tilda Swinton, and even your co-star Amy Adams come to mind. You want to know what class looks like? Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, and Lynda Carter all led busy lives and did amazing for it. There are families struggling to get by and you want to bitch that your paycheck was a million or so lighter because you weren’t the star of a movie? Fuck off. The gender pay gap has been a constant issue being brought up these days and trying to coattail ride it that your paycheck for one movie wasn’t super mega with sprinkles is just pathetic.
Why not mention how you’re getting a cool $10 million for each Hunger Games sequel film — far more than your male co-stars are getting who are just as busy onscreen as your character is… some might say more so. Or maybe that Sci-Fi Space Opera train movie Passengers which co-stars uber-hot-in-Hollywood-right-now Chris Pratt? Oh wait, you may not want people to know you’re getting $20 million out of them for it and another 30 points on the profits while Chris Pratt settles for a $12 million dollar check. I guess the gender pay gap really is only important when it’s about you.
